Native live stake cutting takes place while plants are dormant, usually starting mid-late fall. Live stakes are cut and shipped beginning mid-late fall through early spring.
Live stake orders require a minimum of 50 units of a single species.
Native Live Stakes are dormant live woody cuttings of a native species with the branches trimmed off and no current roots. Live stakes are selected from fast rooting species. The stakes are driven into the ground to quickly establish root mats and easily reinforce stream banks and bind soil particles together in loose soil areas. Once established, live stakes also provide wildlife habitat. Live stakes can be used to secure bioengineering materials or as an anchor for erosion control and geo-fabrics. Stakes are inserted or driven through openings in rock structures, such as gabions, riprap, and other retaining structures.
